Slowburn Brewing Co-op is a worker-owned cooperative brewery situated in the cultural hub Porten Vridsløse located in the former Vridsløselille Prison, in Albertslund just outside Copenhagen. We opened the brewery in August 2019 and are currently a team of 9 people. In spring 2023 we opened up the new brewery taproom in the prison with pop-up events focused on community through art, music, food, science and great beer.
At Slowburn, we brew a vast amount of different styles. From more traditional brews, like Pilsner or Brown Ale, to more modern interpretations of what beer can or is supposed to be, like Double IPA or Mixed Fermentation Sour.
Our brewing philosophy focuses on quality, consistency and drinkability.
The quality and consistency are achieved by a great attention to detail throughout the brewing process, together with using high quality raw materials, and with a particular focus on yeast and fermentation management.
With drinkability we refer to the ease of drinking that we want everybody to experience when they sip a Slowburn beer, whether it's a light Pilsner or a Double IPA.
Our brewery is a worker-owned cooperative. This means that the business is democratically run and governed by the working members of the cooperative via a general assembly. We all have an equal say applying the principle of “one head, one vote”. We want to create a sustainable and inclusive workplace that is more than just a brewery, and where profits and activities benefit the workers and our surrounding community.
The cooperative structure allows us to remain independent, as there are no owner’s shares to sell to any outside party. We grow the business organically and look forward to welcoming new members to the team as we continue this ever-evolving project.
